The American Dental Association (ADA) announced actress Constance Wu will kick off SmileCon 2023 in Orlando, Florida, on 5 Oct 2023. Wu will share her personal journey and speak about wellness, one of the key themes at this year’s SmileCon.
Known for starring in Warner Brother romantic comedy hit ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, Wu received a Golden Globe nomination and a Critics Choice nomination for the role. Wu is also known for her career-launching work as Jessica Huang in ABC’s acclaimed comedy series ‘Fresh off the Boat’ and, as a result, was honoured as part of the TIME 100 Most Influential People in 2017. The series made Hollywood history as the first American Network TV show to centre on an Asian American family in over 20 years.
In late 2022, Wu released a memoir titled ‘Making a Scene’, an essay collection that recounts her experiences growing up in suburban Virginia and navigating her early career as an actress, falling in and out of love, and discovering her self-identity. Wu also recently launched Tempo Wubato Pictures, a production venture that struck a first-look deal with eOne, where she and her vice-president of development are producing scripted series. Wu holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Film, where she trained in classical theatre.
“We are thrilled to have Constance Wu join SmileCon to address and inspire our ADA community, who like Wu, are passionate about their craft,” said ADA president Dr George Shepley. “Her words will be a vital reminder to all who hear them that taking care of yourself is the first step in sharing your talents with others.”
SmileCon 2023 will take place 5-7 Oct at the Orange County Convention Centre in Orlando, US. Registration for the meeting opens on 7 Jun 2023.
