Dental Protection to continue evolving and innovating, says chairman

Dr Graham Stokes, dentist and chairman of the MPS Council, has said Dental Protection will continue to evolve and innovate to strengthen the support and services it provides to dental professionals worldwide.

Writing in MPS’s 2025 annual report, he said: “Dental Protection has a long and proud history, but we are by no means standing still. We are continuing to evolve, innovate and sharpen our focus.”

“Our responsibilities to both members and colleagues require us to strengthen our ability to provide a secure, high-quality service, ensuring we remain fit for purpose in an evolving world,” Dr Stokes said. “Through our learning hub and research arm, The MPS Foundation, we will continue helping members stay ahead of the curve. Whether it is building safer practices or navigating a rapidly changing healthcare landscape, our aim is to empower dental professionals to grow and succeed. These initiatives are what set us apart, making membership more than just a safeguard.”

“Our council continues to represent members with focus and purpose. My fellow council members come from a wide range of backgrounds and bring extensive experience and expertise to the role. The majority are doctors or dentists, ensuring members’ voices remain central to our decision-making,” he shared. “I have been delighted to welcome fellow dentist Catherine Rutland to the council as a non-executive director. Prof Raj Rattan has also been appointed as Dental Protection’s first global adviser, while Dr George Wright took up the role of dental director in Apr. Both bring many years of dental experience and a genuine passion for the profession.”

Dr Stokes concluded: “It has been an inspiring two years as your chairman, and our work as an organisation remains as meaningful today as when I first took on the role. Our purpose — supporting members when they need us most so they can provide the best possible care for their patients — continues to guide everything we do.”

The 2026 MPS annual general meeting was held on 3 Jul 2026, and the 2025 annual report is now available to read.
