More than 500 participants from 40 countries joined 50 international speakers at Dentsply Sirona implant solutions world summit, which took place in Athens, Greece from 8-10 Jun 2023.
On the first day, participants could choose from seven master classes to kick off the educational programme. Digital dentistry was in focus with a special CLOUD session dedicated to how DS Core can support in making implant treatment secure for file sharing, collaborating, and ordering directly from the lab. A special BATTLE session allowed audience to take part in two debates: (1) Dr Rodrigo Neiva and Dr David Barack; and (2) Dr Mischa Krebs and Dr Gary Jones. Using an online tool, the participants contributed to the discussion, answered questions, and voted for winners.
Sustainability was discussed by Danish oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr Malene Hallund, who was one of the summit’s programme chairs. Dr Hallund shared her experience of building a dental practice that is considerate of the environment. She also aims to attract employees who are conscious about sustainability and feel a sense of ownership in the endeavour.
The final day of the scientific programme had parallel sessions discussing the aim of optimal aesthetics, questions around the desire for immediate implant placement, and dealing with risks in implant dentistry. An expert panel guided the audience through controversial topics in implant dentistry before wrapping up with a FUTURE session focused on augmented reality and how its use can bring value in a dental context.
In line with the theme of ‘passion delivered’, Dentsply Sirona announced a US$10,000 donation to Smile Train, which was said to be the world’s largest cleft-focused organisation.
The two organisations entered a five-year renewable partnership in 2021, driven by the ambition to further the provision of safe, high quality, and expert cleft care from diagnosis through to care delivery using the dental technology resources to serve patient care. Dentsply Sirona on-site donation will help children with financial challenges obtain access to cleft care and help to create healthy smiles.
The summit provided implant dentistry professionals a platform to learn and network. In addition to the educational programme, attendees also had the chance to network with peers and enjoy the cultural aspect of Athens with two social evenings. Dr Hallund added, “The summit brought a sense of community for professionals working in implant dentistry.”
“Science, the humanities, and art are what Athens represents. It was the place to come together with dental professionals who practice the science of medicine, the humanity of personal patient care and the art of creating unique and beautiful smiles,” said Tony Susino, group vice-president, global implant and prosthetic solutions at Dentsply Sirona.
In 2023, Dentsply Sirona will hold three DS World events: (1) Las Vegas, US on 21-23 Sep 2023; (2) Madrid, Spain on 22-23 Sep 2023; and (3) Riccione, Italy on 29-30 Sep 2023.
