More than 1,000 visitors from close to 50 countries participated in the International Congress on Ankylos in Berlin, which took place on 29th-30th June 2018. They experienced how implant dentistry and a dedicated dental community with focus on the digital future can create optimal results for patients.
The congress program featured lectures that represent the importance of trusting excellence, such as the session “Based on experience—state-of-the-art implant design” with Mr. Barry Goldenberg (USA), Ye Lin (China) and Mr. Valdir Muglia (Brazil). In addition, the emphasis was on discovering excellence and the digital future, where Paul Weigl (Germany) discussed “Implant therapy and the virtual patient” and Mark Ludlow (USA) asked “Why digital? Why now?
Current news and trends, as well as scientific documentation and clinical evidence were in focus at the congress. “Clinical experience, professional skills and scientific evidence is the basis for the development of new treatment protocols and for overcoming challenges, ultimately leading to a long-term contribution to oral health,” said Mr. Lars Henrikson, Group Vice President Dentsply Sirona Implants. Indeed, not only current trends but also new scientific findings in implant dentistry were the main focus during the Berlin event.
Acuris—a new dimension in implant dentistry
Delegates at the congress got an exclusive look at Acuris, the new conometric concept that uses friction instead of a screw or cement to secure the crown to the abutment in the final prosthetic part of the implant treatment.
This new solution saves time, improves predictability, and ensures high-quality end results in the clinic, while improving the workflow in the lab. In addition, there is a reduced risk of complications like cementitis due to the cement-free solution, which, in turn, increases patient satisfaction.
Acuris is a major breakthrough in implant dentistry as the solution redefines fixed retention. This groundbreaking innovation truly represents the best of two worlds: a retention that is removable for the dentist but fixed for the patient.
Acuris is developed in close cooperation with Dr. Marco Degidi, Italy. The solution will include abutments with different angulations, it will be available for all three implant systems from Dentsply Sirona Implants, starting with the Ankylos implant system, and can be used in all positions in the mouth.
Clinical documentation on Ankylos implant system
With up to 17 years of clinical follow-up, a retrospective analysis* of 18,945 Ankylos implants placed in a large patient population (7,783 patients) showed successful long-term clinical results when using a flapless surgical approach. The Ankylos implant system has been in clinical use for more than 25 years and shows high survival rates and favorable esthetic results.
