Guide Aims to Help Doctors and Dentists Spot Oral Cancer

Spotting the signs of oral cancer could be made easier after a Queen Alexandra Hospital specialist created a guide for GPs and dentists.

Professor Peter Brennan, a consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon at QA, has worked with Cancer Research UK, the British Dental Association and the British Dental Health Foundation to create the toolkit. It is designed to help dental professionals and GPs to spot the disease earlier and has been recently launched.

It features images of signs and symptoms and outlines how GPs and dentists should refer patients for further tests.

Prof. Brennan said, “It’s really important that GPs and dentists are able to spot the symptoms of oral cancer as early as possible, and I was delighted to be approached to help Cancer Research UK with this fantastic project.”
