Philips at IDS 2023: Celebrating 30 years of Sonicare innovation and clinical expertise in oral healthcare

Royal Philips, a health technology company, is exhibiting at the International Dental Show (IDS) 2023, from 14-18 Mar in Cologne, Germany. Philips celebrates 30 years of its Sonicare innovations.

Efficient and effective
With its 30 years of experience in creating oral care solutions developed closely with the dental community, Philips Sonicare’s approach has always been to help people achieve a higher degree of oral care at home between dental visits. The two-time 2023 Stiftung Warentest (the best-known and independent German test institute) test winner1, Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Prestige 9900, has a A3 Premium All-in-One brush head which has angled bristles to help remove up to 20x more plaque versus a manual toothbrush2. It is Philips’ most advanced power toothbrush and is effortless and effective, ensuring users always get their oral care right.

“As a true healthcare partner and leader in digital innovation, Philips’ mission is to improve people’s lives — and oral health forms a big part of this,” said Marlies Gebetsberger, business marketing leader, Western Europe, Personal Health at Philips. “By putting dental professionals and their patients at the centre of what we do, we’re able to deliver complete and cutting-edge, personalised and connected oral care solutions that empower people to achieve a healthy mouth efficiently and effectively, between dental visits. Through personalised technology, for example, we’re able to help people easily adopt healthier brushing behaviours at home. Take the Sonicare DiamondClean Prestige 9900 — it comes with an AI-powered app which gives real-time guidance and personalised recommendations to improve users’ brushing habits.”

Supporting the connection between oral and overall health
Philips has always been supportive of the connection between oral and overall health and champions the World Health Organization adopting a landmark resolution in 2021 which underpins that maintaining a healthy mouth can reduce your chances of developing wider health issues. The resolution also highlights the importance of preventing oral diseases through both regular dental check-ups and good brushing at home.

Working with a global network of trusted partners including scientific experts, research institutes and dental professionals, Philips is committed to raising awareness about the importance oral healthcare. To find out the public’s knowledge of the connection between oral health and cardiovascular disease, the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation and Philips Sonicare commissioned a Sifo survey in January 2023, which shows that half the Swedish population does not know that there might be a connection. One in 10 stated that their dentist or dental hygienist told them about the connection3.

Philips also supports ORANGEFORCE — a three-year programme with around 80 patient organisations, which focuses on the elderly. Many elderly people do not go to the dentist often enough, whereas their oral health is at risk of developing periodontitis or even diabetes or pre-diabetes. Early detection is key and therefore Philips supports this great initiative. Together, they will continue to raise awareness of the importance of oral health, to improve people’s lives.

Philips’ complete oral care offering
Philips Sonicare has a solution for every patient’s need. In addition to Philips’ extensive range of Sonicare power toothbrushes, the Philips Sonicare Power Flosser is a water flossing device that helps thoroughly clean between teeth and along the gumline. An effective alternative to string floss, it features unique Quad Stream technology to thoroughly clean between the teeth and along the gum line. Offering better results than string floss, the Philips Sonicare Power Flosser is clinically proven to be up to 180% more effective at improving gum health4 and three times as effective in removing plaque between teeth and along the gumline4.

Keeping up with European Medical Device Regulation changes which come into effect in May 2024, Philips Zoom! will continue to offer a light-accelerated in-office treatment with 6% hydrogen peroxide (HP) that gives patients immediate whitening results — up to seven shades within one hour — experiencing little to no sensitivity during and after a Zoom WhiteSpeed procedure5. Philips Zoom! offers a versatile range of professional Take Home whitening solutions: Zoom! DayWhite for safe and effective whitening during the day and NiteWhite for comfortable use overnight.
