Sunstar Oral Health, a division of Sunstar, has unveiled the latest edition of the Regional Awards of Distinction for dental hygienists. The accolades aim to acknowledge the exceptional contributions of dental hygienists across Europe and North America, highlighting their significant impact on the field of dental hygiene.
Created in collaboration with partners such as the European Dental Hygienist Federation (EDHF) and RDH Magazine, these regional awards celebrate excellence in dental hygiene across diverse categories. Supported by the Sunstar Foundation, the European and North American Awards of Distinction provide a platform for hygienists to showcase their achievements and contributions within their respective regions.
“We have been very impressed by the standard of nominations received for the 2023 awards European Award of Distinction, and the EDHF is delighted to continue our involvement in the 2024 edition together with Sunstar,” said Gitana Rederiene, president of the European Dental Hygienist Federation.
The European and North American Awards of Distinction are now officially open for entries, offering dental hygienists a unique opportunity for recognition. By participating in these awards, hygienists can not only showcase their work but also gain automatic qualification for the esteemed World Dental Hygienist Award, elevating their professional standing on a global scale. Winners of the Awards of Distinction will be unveiled in July 2024.
Qualified dental hygienists are encouraged to submit their entries before the deadlines, 31 Mar 2024 for the North American Award, and 15 Apr 2024 for the European Award. Whether self-nominating or nominating a deserving colleague, all officially registered dental hygienists are eligible to participate.
The categories for both awards encompass Public Health, Full-Time Clinician, Academia, Entrepreneurship, New RDH, and Research, offering a comprehensive spectrum of recognition for diverse accomplishments within the field.
Moreover, these regional awards serve as stepping stones toward the coveted World Dental Hygienists Award, established in 2007 and reinstated last year after a temporary hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2024 WDHA winners will be announced during the International Symposium of Dental Hygiene in Seoul, with the next edition slated for January 2025.
Independent selection committees will evaluate nominations across all categories, ensuring impartial recognition of excellence. Winners will not only receive regional acclaim but also qualify for the prestigious WDHA, with the chance to attend the International Symposium on Dental Hygiene and the accompanying award ceremony in Milan in 2026.
“Our commitment to celebrating dental hygienists is now stronger than ever with not just one, but three awards dedicated to acknowledging their successes and achievements globally,” said Mayumi Kaneda, director of the Sunstar Foundation.
